The Impact of Covid-19 on Phuket Property

Since the launch of this Phuket Property Guide in 2018, the island has undergone a huge transformation. This 2024/5 edition has been updated regularly, but nothing over the past 40 years has created such a massive change to the Phuket property sector as the pandemic did during and after the years 2020 and 2021.

The length of the tourism slump and the fall in Phuket property sales caused by the pandemic may have been an anomaly, but the revaluation of many affluent individuals lifestyle choices and the emergence of working remotely has buoyed the Phuket real estate sector to such a degree, that the island today is now unrecognizable from the pre-Covid era, just a few short years ago. The number of new families moving to the island has been growing since 2022, with the number of new international schools being testament to this, as is the ever increasing number of new Phuket villa and condominium projects.

The pandemic obviously impacted far more than just tourism statistics on the island. It has also reinvented Phuket, and while the pandemic was painful for many locals and foreign residents at the time, it has re-emerged as a world class tourism destination with a thriving property market.
