In between two small capes south of Nai Yang, lies the quiet bay of Nai Thon. It is nestled in one of the most beautiful areas, amidst unspoiled rain forest, yet still only minutes from Phuket International Airport.

The beauty of Nai Thon is that, although it feels cut off from the rest of Phuket by the dense jungle and virgin rain forest, it is only a few minutes away from civilization and the airport.

It is only accessible by two roads at either end of the beach which gives it that wonderful isolated feeling you want from a tropical paradise. As both roads come down the mountain towards Nai Thon there are beautiful views of the Andaman Sea.

At sea level the roads meet the main road in Nai Thon which runs parallel to the sea and the beautiful stretch of sand that is Nai Thon Beach

Why Nai Thon is a Great Place to Invest in Phuket Property

For anyone who loves that tropical paradise ambience Nai Thon may be the perfect place to find a home.

This stretch of coastline is also is also a part of the Sirinat National Park, and much of it is protected area, so there is no fear of the area ever being overdeveloped. The jungles surrounding the beach area full of lush greenery and alive with the sounds of cicadas.

It’s wonderfully peaceful and although trapped between two mountains, has plenty of restaurants and bars. Anyone who lives here will truly have the feeling of being a local.

Of course, not everyone loves peace and solitude. If you’re looking for nightlife then Nai Thon is probably not for you. But we know that many holiday makers actively seek out this type of closeness to nature when booking their perfect holiday.

That means if you own a property here purely for investment, you will likely find it easy to rent out, especially throughout the peak season.  Rentals have always been attractive in this area, and buyers of property in Nai Thon should be rewarded by high occupancy rates.

The area has not undergone huge development, but there are now a number of resorts for sale, from condominiums to private villas. It still doesn’t get the crowds that other areas see, but it has plenty to offer.

Villas and Condos For Sale in the Nai Thon Area

Nai Thon is not bustling with new developments. In fact, at present the choices are fairly limited. But some may suggest that this is a good thing not a bad thing. For anyone who falls in love with this part of Phuket, and wishes to purchase property here, they will have to pay the asking price.

When properties in an area are scarce, then any shift in demand will obviously buoy prices.

Because of the lack of development, it is hard to think of Nai Thon ever losing this laid back charm, as certainly around the seafront area, there is simply not enough land to develop. That said, we may see some development and new amenities on the roads leading into or behind the main seafront road.

There are, however, a few very decent condominium resorts here and a few villa developments 5 minutes away just over the hill in Sakoo towards the airport and Nai Yang.

For the most part, however, Nai Thon remains as peaceful and traditional as it’s always been, which is exactly why it attracts buyers.

The Beach at Nai Thon

As you would expect from a low density area, the beach is always relatively quiet. It’s also relatively unspoiled and offers an amazing place to chill out and enjoy the scenery.

It also isn’t inundated with the sunbeds and towels of holiday makers, as you will find on some of the busier beaches on the island.

The sea is crystal clear but sand banks make the waves higher than at other beaches. It’s not an overly long beach, but it is a gorgeous stretch of sand, with rocks on either end where snorkelling is great. It’s wonderful for swimming, although much better in the high season (when the weather turns, the undertow can be too strong).

If you swim out just a short distance, you can look back at the tropical greenery and the unspoiled jungle on the mountain side.  It’s a great way appreciate the natural beauty of of Nai Thon.

At the northern end of the beach is the new Pullman Phuket Arcadia resort.  In addition to luxury and relaxation, this 5-star hotel offers panoramic views of the Andaman Sea, and direct access to the beach.

Restaurants in Nai Thon

The entire sea front road is dotted with restaurants and small bars, and the choice is perfectly adequate for most people. There are many Thai restaurants with great seafood but also many places selling western food.

The Pullman also has some great restaurants for anyone who wants that finer dining evening meal. It has a few cafes, bars and a few dining choices including a Thai/Western Fusion and an Italian Trattoria and Wine Bar. The C Bar is also worth checking out for a cocktail as it has stunning views looking back south over Nai Thon Beach.

The Trisara also has a few amazing dining options.  Although it can be pricey, it is certainly good for a special evening out.

And not forgetting it is only a 15 minute drive to the busier areas of Layan, Laguna and Cherng Talay where the choice of restaurants is huge. Bang Tao is also home to four popular Beach Clubs, all serving quality food and beverages.

There is not much in the way of retail shopping near Nai Thon, but you are not too far from a couple of supermarkets.

It’s only 20 minutes to either Villa Market at Boat Avenue (next to the entrance to Laguna), or to Tesco-Lotus on the main road (402) in Thalang.  Tesco has most of your staples, but if you are looking for international (western) products, Villa is probably the best place to look.

Schools in Nai Thon

The closest international secondary school is United World College (UWC), which is about 20 minutes away, just across the Highway 402.

For Kindergarten/Pre-School, the nearest option is Kindergarten Rainbow, about 15 minutes from Nai Thon, and less than 10 minutes from UWC.

Other Attractions in Nai Thon

If you love beaches, then one of the most beautiful beaches on the west coast is only a short distance heading south on the coast road. This meandering road cuts through the virgin forest, alive with the sounds of cicadas, past some smaller beaches only accessible by traversing the steep slopes down to the sand.

One of these is the secluded and picturesque Banana Beach.  You need to park at the top along the road, then walk down a path to reach the beach, through virgin rain forest, climb over a few fallen logs, even cross a small river, but the effort is worth it.

If you keep going on the coast road without going down to Banana Beach, on your right hand side, you’ll notice the luxurious Trisara Resort.  It occupies the headland just before you reach Layan Beach and the Laguna area.

Nai Thon is also home to the Phuket Elephant Jungle Sanctuary.  Here you have the opportunity to see the animals close up, and to feed them.

If you’re prepared to get a little wet and muddy, you can even bathe these majestic creatures.  The Elephant Sanctuary does not have any elephant rides because they are trying to change people’s thinking and offer a different kind of interaction.

If you are a golfer, Nai Thon is less than 20 minutes from two of the best golf courses on the island.

Blue Canyon (to the north, near the airport), is the course where Tiger Woods cemented his young legend by driving the green across the canyon on the 13th hole (now called “The Tiger Hole”).

The course at Laguna Golf Phuket was completely overhauled in 2015. Now a multiple award winning course, it weaves a serpentine path through the lakes of the Laguna complex.  Blue Canyon and Laguna are regarded as two of Thailand’s finest golf courses.

Like most areas of Phuket, you are also not too far away from the usual tourist attractions such as ATV, animal shows and zip lining.
